I feel sick.

Oh my God, I think I know now who all the previous posts were talking about! It is so obvious! How could we have missed it!

Anonymous said...

The truth hurts sometimes... but life goes on.

Even though we might have moved on.. its hard to teach an old dog new tricks...

Hopefully things gets batter

Anonymous said...

Glad you now know. It was actually so obvious already. If you read the previous posts carefully, all the examples lead to only one person.
I'm saying this not for any reason but just to defend the other Hope pastors. My pastor was also put in the firing line, but I know he is fine. It's actually only this ONE pastor that is the problem. And now that photos are up, it's a sign from God I think.

Anonymous said...

I also feel sick.

I guess a lot of it is due to his character flaws. There are many lovely Thai pastors who are humble and not insecure like this one. I believe many of his childish actions; i.e forbidding his members to be in touch with those who have left etc are due to his insecurity.

It's a lesson for those of us who are in leadership; the need to remain humble and stay close to God. To remind ourselves that our poor sheep do suffer when we are insecure and exhibit signs of insecurities. It suffocates them, causes them to stumble.

Anonymous said...

You guys are not serious! So this is THE pastor that is making headlines? I have heard many other stories before as well, but always thought that they were talking about different people, so it's actually the same one!

Anonymous said...

I knew it! I suspect it is him, but had no one confirm. I wonder if the HIM leaders know?

Hersh said...

Yes they've known (or should have known) for sometime. At least 4-5 years.

But they had no alternative and still may not have one.

Anonymous said...

Yes, he's a truly Hope Bangkok trained styled pastor. I think on previous post he was the one who was openly opposed to Ps PK leter to PN.

But i think one problem is that it would be hard for HIM to do anything.

Besides me, there are many who have left because we get shot down. He tells you he will listen to you. But when you tell him stuff, it goes on his sermon. So in essence he enjoys telling people he is listens to them but his style speaks otherwise. So you can imagine the type of church he is building - TOTAL submission without questioning authority. To him there is no right or wrong, leader is always right.

He tells people not to invite those who left church to their wedding cause he does not want the people there. So he doesn't mind if people move church to Hope but if you move out you are OUT for good. So hypocrite.

So if we cannot work with him because of his style. It is regarded as Bad spirit. But I dont see the link between people's marriage and inviting their friends and people have issues with him and his style.

I hear from friends still in the church he Slams everyone who left church openly. As though we were wrong yet.. we have never been given a chance to defend our story.

He tells stories which are totally Half-truth. And only smart people in HOpe bother to ask us our side of the story.... Won't elaborate... the number of people who left and stories are too numerous.

Apparently, he has step down before in thailand, because he got people in church involve in real estate and caused many people loss money. He tells people he left for almost 7 yrs. AND THEN ... immediately becomes a Pastor... and took over in perth without first... rising up slowly...

So its like a leader with the title without his life still in question.

Wont say more... HIM should do something.

SAD

Dear Hersh, why wouldn't the HIM leaders do something if he is really like that? It's such a bad reputation for the rest of us! And it's not healthy for the people in the church too. They learn wrong teaching.

If the HIM leaders really care about God's people, they should to do something about it!

Anonymous said...

I think its hard to rock the boat. Our HIM leaders are not the confrontational sort and maybe with the recent Hope split it will be too early to do anything

Anonymous said...

Yes, i too experience such thing from Him. I dont understand, it just seems very petty and vindictive.

If we had wanted to take people or influence his people, we dont have to do it at official events.

We can go and meet our "friends" anytime. This pastor seems to think that if you cannot work with him or accept his style, you will be excommunicated. This sort of spirit is very bad, it gives church a bad name.

My friend gave some feedback and next thing u know. Its on his sermon... but one sided story.. he tells people only half truth without allowing the person to defend themselves. That is why people are so angry to the point they no longer provide feedback.

Personally i do not think its far, when u talk about people without giving them the opportunity to say anything.. to me i think its just Gossip in a " Leader form"

Wish them all the best.

No wonder I've heard so many stories about Hope Perth. And I'm all the way across the country.

I think my pastor also has his weak points & also sometimes follow a lot of the "Hope" culture which may not be right. But nothing as serious as what has been brought against this pastor.

I think if this church is as important to the key leaders of HIM, then they should do something about it. If they say they really care about God's people the way they claim to. Not being confrontational is not an excuse.

Hi Anonymous

I'm responding to your post on November 1, 2009 1:32 AM in regards to the inaction of HIM leaders.

You asked a very good question. While I don’t have all the answers, a subsequent poster noted that it is hard to rock the boat since the HIM leaders are not the confrontational sort. There is much truth in his/her statements. Also, human nature being the way it is the majority of us avoid confrontation – e.g. none of us post in this forum using real names!

Have a think about the points below:
1. When HGI/HIM leaders monitored the happenings in the church, nothing drastic happened but some action was taken.
2. The relevant pastor has a very honorable wife and children.
3. It is difficult to relocate a new pastor to Perth. Unless HIM can identify a new pastor from within the church, they have to appoint from interstate or overseas. A overseas non-resident has immigration issues. An interstate appointee has a long way to travel.

The above may provide some insight into the challenges HIM have to consider in their decision making process.

I never knew that practicality superceeds right and wrong. Can't they appoint a overseer for the time being? Can't they join up with another church for the time being? Are there NOOO pastors left in Perth except him? All these options are available. Don't use practicality as an excuse for condoning wrong. Why is there a disparity in dealing with rogue pastors?

I am not perfect. I will admit to that. But my heart's desire is to grow to be more like Christ.

ex-member to Hersh said...

On your remarks, "Also, human nature being the way it is the majority of us avoid confrontation – e.g. none of us post in this forum using real names!"

Have you thought that the reason why we dun leave our real names is that we want to remain credible?

If we put our names, likely the case that readers might dismissed the contents of what we say with prejudice or biasness, worst being labelled "bad spirited" after knowing who we might be which isn't true. But because we were from Hope, that label stuck on us. No?

Being anonymous provides readers to judge based solely on the content of our comments. There's objectivity for readers to make a judgement and verdict.

Another point is, how do you know we have not confronted our pastors on such issues? You're making assumptions here.

ex-member to Hersh said...

Another example why anonymity is better in this site... Let say if I knew you, Hersh...

My thoughts while reading the entry might be like this: "Oh... he is just a member not even a shepherd, 18 years old and being in Hope for barely a year. He knows nothing and doesn't know what he is talking about."

In that stroke of a brush, your comments are not listened and deem not credible.

So anonymity does not being we are afraid to confront ok?

Btw, the "thoughts" above is just imaginary. Any resemblance is purely coincidental.

Hersh said...

Unfortunately my comments seem to have caused so much unnecessary angst. Is it my writing style?

Given that Hersh isn't my name, either I'm critising all of us for our combined actions in posting anonymously (myself included) or I'm providing a practical example (using the abbreviation “e.g.”) of the point I was making - which is that the majority of people prefer to avoid confrontation. Of these 2 alternatives I would encourage you as “good friends in the Lord” to prefer the benign alternative.

Exhope, you are 100% right to say that practicality is not a substitute for right or wrong. However once we take off our teaching hat and put on our pastoral hat it does become a balancing exercise in practice - how much discipline should we administer and to what extent should that discipline be tempered with grace? Different ones of us will arrive at different conclusions. Not all of those conclusions will be wrong.

As for the 3 alternatives you have put forward in your questions, one has been tried before, a second can be answered "Yes" and the third which is joining with another church is may be something HGI/HIM have never contemplated. Should they merge Hope Perth with another church? Possibly, it’s an idea worthy of serious consideration but ultimately sad as it may sound it is not our place to make that decision.

Ex-member, unless I’m missing the point, it seems you may be drawing implications from my posts that frankly speaking I never contemplated. No one’s credibility is being questioned – everyone has a story to tell and I’m prepared to accept the truthfulness of the stories without an inquisition. To put our collective minds at rest, can I suggest my posts be read simply at face value and not between the lines?

Let’s also be clear about the following: I was not and will try not to criticize anyone in this forum (not even the Hope Perth pastor). Nor will I encourage inappropriate confrontation, or encourage anyone to form judgments or arrive at verdicts. The Lord knows best and it is wise to leave the vexed issue of judgments and verdicts to Him and Him alone.

I’m not a crony of the Hope Perth pastor and am not presenting a defence on his behalf. However, a simple question is sufficient to make an important point: Is it fair or indeed biblical to arrive at a judgment or verdict against the Hope Perth pastor without giving him the opportunity to be heard? This point is absolutely fundamental. When the Lord confronted Adam in the Garden of Eden after the “original sin” was committed he asked Adam “where are you?”. Given that the Lord always knew where Adam was, what was the reason for asking the question?

If you have been hurt deeply by leaders in positions of authority – commit it to the Lord and allow Him to heal you with time. I have shared in your experience and am not merely typing empty “feel good” words.

Relax, breathe in deeply and smile. I'm not having a go at you. In fact I’m extending a cyber hand for you to shake. Will you take it please?

ex-member to Hersh said...

Again, you are assuming alot of things with your recent comment.

First, if I'm recall from the threads, not one accused you as being a crony of the Hope Perth pastor nor thinks you're defending him.

Secondly, you assumed that commentors are hurt deeply by leaders in positions of authority based from your advice. I don't most of the commentors here are hurt, they're just feeling unjust for what is happening to the church.

Anyway, my apologies if my earlier comments had appeared as if I was going against you. Not my intention at all. I only want to balance things up.

But probably my fault also that I read too much into your comments and replied in haste.

I have accepted your cyber hand.

Cheers.

Hersh said...

Ex member, thanks for your post.

Actually if you read my post again, it will become apparent that the "assumptions" that trouble you are in fact "points of clarification" made solely for the avoidance of doubt.

Thanks for shaking my cyber hand. It's much appreciated.

Have a good day.

Wow, this is somethin new. I heard so much about 'A PASTOR IN HOPE' but never knew who.

Now it's all revealed. This is quite an eye opener.

And I'm in Hope Singapore, but still news about him have travel so far.

I feel so sorry for Hope Perth. I also heard from some of my leaders that they never grow. Last 4 yers still at same numbers of people in church. ANd many people leave also. I know numbers are not always important, but I also know that it can be indication of something wrong.

From what I read, he seems to be quite bad image for new HIM. No wonder so many still not happy with HIM. Weren't we always taught to cut off whatever makes us sin? I don't know if applies here, but I think some things he's doing is against bible principles. So if HIM leaders now say they want to change things & follow God's word then should also apply.

HERSH, you say that he has honourable wife and children, I agree. I met them at a convention few times before. But I don't think anyone here is saying bad things about them, only about him. It doesn't matter even if they honourable, cos they not running the church, he is. It's like saying in a company a dishonest & cruel boss is fine, as long as his wife & children is good. I think no relation at all. What u think?

Hersh said...

Hi HIMSING,

Your analogy is correct.

As there was some negativity going around (whether justified or unjustified) I felt the need to make a positive comment in regards to the wife and children to put things in perspective.

Take care.

I was in Hope Perth, serving with Pastor Stephen. This is what I witnessed, with no intention to overwrite any comments made earlier.

When I came to Hope Perth, it was a size of 20+, unlike the big church I came from. The flow of service was not very different from the church I came from, but the atmosphere was stale, and the people were not exactly excited or warm, other than the one who was busying running the service, who also later became my CL. I went home negotiating with God, "Are You sure You want me to be here?" He gave an assurance through my heart, so I stayed on. Since the decision was sealed, I attended every event invitation including their prayer meet, yet there was still heart struggles to really feel belong with the church. The comforting factors that kept me going were God told me so and a good CL.

Shortly with the church, I was told that someone from Hope Bangkok will take over the leadership of the church, his name is none other, Ps Stephen. When he came to Perth, he wasted no time to meet the people in the church to get on the role. He shared on what God showed him that moved him to come to Perth immediately, without his family, without attending his father's wake (his father passed away just before he boarded the plane to Perth). He poured his sprirt on the urgency and heartbeat of God to see Hope Perth moves beyond where it is. He also setup dinner, cooked for the people with a sumptous spread, and presented with explanation to them (yes, i was there) the new structure of the church, and seek volunteers to be part of it. Were the people supportive and responsive? It's hard to teach old dog new trick was the answer I saw from their response. I don't know how he felt then, I would have been discouraged, what I saw was he continue to encourage, encourage, and encourage the people to move with him with God to grow the church.

Months later, his family came, his wife, son and daughter. We know he loves his family without a doubt. Asked those who don't think much of him, I think they will agree with me too. Imagined how he felt when he was challenged by God to leave his family in Bangkok, and came to Perth by himself. While he finally reunited with his family, it was a test to his finance. He had to work part-time cooking fish and chips to support his family, and his children education. It was on top of his roles of being a bible college student (a means stay in perth), a pastor, a shepherd, a father, and a husband. I remembered I broke down once in front of him when I felt very stressful coping with my studies and church ministry, he still comfort me while studying for his exams. What does this tell you about him?

Witness said...

Things that he did that ppl started leaving? Disputes happened, even out of church. Exactly what happened only the parties involved know (and God), so I am not here to defend or judge who is right and who is wrong. Just like any big corporations, the new leader will definitely bring in changes. For the good or bad. I let you decide as I shared with you what he did. He did a courageous change, removed the worship team, except less than handful. He had to play keyboard as well as preaching almost every week as a result. So why? People in worship team were in BGR, some stayed with their girlfriend. Though not in the same room, still they are under one roof by themselves. What sort of message is being portrayed to the non-believers? After Ps Stephen removing worship team, he did not condemned them, he went to individual to teach and counsel, he even stayed with those couples to restore them, and those who repented joined back to the worship team, but inevitable people were still hurt by this decision in the process. Could it be better manage? I can only say I could not have done better. Then he removed the leadership team, exciting time, another courageous move! Why? No unity in the team, yes I agreed that because I saw that as well. When disagreement happened, it will usually lead into arguement instead of clarification, I mean the spirit part. One pastor in Hope used to say,"It is important to recognised that we can disagree, but not have disagreeing spirit." and 1 Cor 12:12 says it all on the importance of unity in the kingdom of God especially leadership team. It was a long and hard decision for Ps Stephen, as he had to take over everything. One more change I had to mention is finance of the church, which created so much topic here. This change was not easy, he even requested prayer from me. A pastor who made bold changes to make things right in God, wrote me an email to ask for a prayer. Was it a struggle? Knowing him, I think so. He did it anyway. Why? He wanted to plant 130 churches in WA, it was his vision that he spoke about many times. As the church grew in numbers from 20+ to 100+, he started mission trips to further parts of WA along with his leadership team, so he requested to get a car for mission trip, but was rejected by the person who in charged of the finance. Frankly, I do not have the in-between details as to why the person rejected the purchase for the mission car, what I can see and testify is Ps Stephen's heartbeat to win many souls for God, and he has been consistent through the years I know him.

Witness said...

Recent controversies? One on not allowing the people in church to mix with member who left church. People who left for obvious reason not happy with church, yes mostly with Ps Stephen. Most people who left were in Hope Perth longer than him. As mentioned, he did many reforms, and changes are never quite well received by "old" people whether in church or secular world, if it challenged their comfort. It is also natural for people, including myself, will air our grievances to people we are closed with. The question here is who would you choose? They chosen to air it with the people still with the church. What's wrong with that? I leave a verse to you, 1 Cor 8:1-13. The second one I am touching is again the finance portion on how he is highly paid, car, house, and plane. I guess in everyone's heart, a pastor should be poor? Why was King Solomon then so richly blessed by God? Can't the people in Hope Perth loves Ps Stephen so much that they wanted him to have a fat pocket? What is that to you? Is his house made of gold, have 10 rooms, 20 toilets? Is his car a porsche? Is his watch rolex? Or his shirt Armani? Did you see it? I saw, it was none above, but do you believe me? And did you wondered why he needed a plane? Did you know he is learning to fly? Before he took the course, he told me he wanted to reach out to northen side of WA such as Broome. He flew there for exploration trip a few times, and even bought me a calendar as souvenir. On our next meeting, he said he wanted to learn flying, as it would be more convenient and cheaper to rent a jet in future to bring his team there to evangelise. Bear in mind, for young chap to pick up flying is already not easy, he is a close to 50 years old man. The price of a private jet varies, 200K mentioned in one of the postings belongs to top range, they are looking for an affordable price range of two new cars, that could pay off by installments like any other vehicle ownership. In one of the postings of the earlier article, the person learned about the plane through eldership meeting notes, this means Ps Stephen has accounted to the leaders about his plan. He did not buy it and then informed the leaders. What are you exactly upset with? because it's a plane and not bicycle? If bicycle can get to Broome as fast as a plane, I think Ps Stephen will have no hesitation to get few bicycles instead.

We all know a kingdom that is established on the wrong footing will not stand. Instead of using too much of our ears to hear who is right or who is wrong, use our eyes to see, let the size of the church (Hope Perth) speaks for Ps Stephen.

"Like sands in an hour glass, these are the days of lives."

Witness, I’m sure you know reality is not always as things seem. More so if you have only heard one person’s (the pastor’s) take of events and if every other person cannot contribute their perspective to the discussion.

For every positive outcome, there are reasons. And for every negative outcome there are also reasons.

Do you personally know what the real reasons are? Or are you only faithfully repeating what you have been told?

PotongMadu

Witness said...

PotongMadu, the long reply have words like "I see" and "I saw" that shown my involvement. It was an account like the words what I witnessed.

What are things I heard and not see I mentioned in the long reply? points on controversies.

Good salary package and welfare, I have not heard or seen his pay cheque. I can only tell u what I see, which I have wrote in my reply. Why not you pay him a visit to see for yourself? I think he will welcome your visit. :) Though I wonder what's wrong for a pastor to be well-provided by the church? The civil servants are also well paid, the money also came from tax payers like us.

Buying a plane, I did not deny he is looking into getting a plane with a price range of two new cars. Some suggested his leaders objected, I do not have facts about this. If you need to address your doubt, the person who could give you the answer is Ps Wilson of Hope Brisbane, he is the overall leader of Hope Australia. You should be able to find his email through the website of Hope Brisbane.

merry Christmas & a happy new year to everyone!

good article about food & good health please read:

1. FRUITS & OLIVE OIL

- Acid Fruit
oranges - pineapples - sour apples - sour plums - lemons - grapefruits - sour peaches - limes - tangerines - sour grapes - tomatoes

These are the most detoxifying fruits and excellent foods. They should be avoided when you have the flu because the body could overreact detoxifying and make you even more sick.

Some people may have problems with these fruits because of their acid content. The acid though is a healthy and organic nutritional element (for instance: ascorbic acid is vitamin c, found especially in citrus fruits and vegetables).

Sometimes one type of fruit from this category can irritate a particular part of the body. This can be caused by an allergic reaction caused by cow milk. There is a good chance that after staying away from dairy this reaction disappears.

- Low-acid Fruit
apricots - blueberries - huckleberries - strawberries - nectarines - raspberries - blackberries - gooseberries - mangos - elderberries - olives - fresh figs - sweet apples - cherries- sweet peaches - sweet plums - persimmons

These fruits are less detoxifying than acid fruits and can be handled well in any amount.

- Sweet Fruit
dates - sweet grapes - pears - prunes - raisins - dried figs

Rehydrate dried fruit by soaking it overnight in a jar of water.

- Melons
watermelons - cantaloupes - honey dew - galia

Are like all other fruits excellent food. What's very special about watermelons is that they contain as much iron as spinach. Eat as much of them as you like.

- Starchy Fruit
bananas - peanuts - pumpkins - winter squashes

Don't eat more than one banana a day if you gain weight easily.

- Non-starchy Fruit
cucumber - sweet pepper - zucchini - egg plant - yellow squash

- Protein containing Fruit
olives - avocadoes

Extremely healthy fruits. Olives and avocadoes contain a lot of different nutritious elements and even scientists don't know what they exactly contain!

- Olive oil
Olive oil is very healthy. Use olive oil from today on instead of animal based fat. If you don't want to use olive oil use a different plant based oil. If you still want to use butter use real butter and not margarine. olives and olive oil

Vegetables contain amino acids and antioxidants in forms that do not occur in other foods. You can eat unlimited amounts. Vegetables are most nutritious when eaten raw. They are especially important to eat for their protein contents. We don't offer more information about vegetables because this is a fruit site.

6. NATURAL, UNREFINED SUGARS
It is very important to use natural, unrefined, often brown sugars instead of white sugars or sweetners. To digest refined white sugar your body has to use a lot of energy and it works as a stimulant. Sweetners make you crave for sugar about 30 minutes after consumption so you end up robbing the cookie jar. Unrefined brown sugars are natural and provide you with energy.
